Im in los angeles...how much to rebuild a transmission for an infiniti i30...1996?

can anyone direct me to a good mechanic..Pep Boys is charging me $1700 to rebuild....is there anyone who knows a better price...or is that the going rate...I'm looking to save money.....but I do want it done corectly...so if $1700 is what the going rate is...then fine I'll pay it...but if I'm getting ripped off ...then someone let me know....
